Online Teaching and Learning Resources (Aug 2020)

The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in campus closures and forced schools and universities around the world to adopt online teaching and learning. To support teachers facing this sudden shift away from F2F classroom teaching, Technology-Enriched Learning Initiative (TELI) has published a Quick Start Guide for teachers to prepare their e-learning materials with the coming semester in mind.

HKU e-learning Quick Start Guide

The guide offers a simple conceptual framework of e-learning with comparison to traditional teaching. Services and tools are also suggested at the key stages of the framework. The guide also provides tips on e-learning content design and selection of tools and platforms. The full guide can be viewed at https://hku.to/elearn_quickstart and visit here for more online resources for teachers.

Centrally Provided Software

Software such as Microsoft Office 365, Camtasia and SPSS Products are available for use by staff and students. For more software items and details, please see Centrally Provided Software

HKU Connect for Staff

HKU staff, by default, are using Microsoft account services (@hku.hk), but the HKU students are using Google account services (@connect.hku.hk). Those two services do not easily integrate together. The workaround is that staffs could also apply for a Google account (@connect.hku.hk). HKU staff can apply the “HKU Connect” account for accessing Google service through https://hkuesd.hku.hk/ccbin/account/cas_gate?appid=apply-connect-staff.

Online educational resources

To get the full benefit of online learning, teachers have to put extra effort to rethink and restructure the learning and teaching experience for students and go beyond replicating a physical class or lecture through video conferencing. Instead, teachers are using a range of collaborative tools and engagement methods to provide an active, constructive and interactive e-learning experience for students. There are hundreds of educational applications, platforms and resources for teachers to choose from and all available on the market, which can make it difficult to find exactly what you are looking for. The e-learning team has shortlisted some online resources for your easy reference.

The above solutions do not carry our explicit endorsement.
