Diastemas Portal

The Diastemas portal is a social media driven learning platform developed as a joint-collaboration between the University of British Columbia (UBC) and HKU. The first platform was developed and initiated in Dentistry. A redesign was undertaken by HKU’s Centre for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning (CETL) and further refined by our e-Learning Team. We enhanced the application by consolidating the backend database connection, improving the graphical user interface (GUI), and enabling a MP4 video upload function.

Blended Synchronous Teaching & Learning (BSTL)

Dr Sam Chu’s Blended Synchronous Teaching and Learning (BSTL) project is supported under the Dean’s Innovation Fund. BSTL tries to implement a new pedagogy, which means a mix of face-to-face classes and online classes using media rich technologies (Bower, Kenney, Dalgarno,  Lee, & Lee, 2013; Szeto, 2014, 2015).

Enhance Learning Activities in a PGDE Class

We participated and explored the learning activities in a PGDE class. A certain technologies are suggested such as Padlet, Conceptbaord (an app available on Chrome browser Web Store) for student collaboration not only in class, also can let them to continue discussion or enhancement out of the class. Peer review function in Moodle (an activity called “Workshop”) could be used to motivate student learning also.
